Do you want a beautiful lawn you can enjoy all year long? Here at Hoffer Pest Solutions, we know it's difficult to find the time to maintain thick, vibrant grass. Just like any other living organism, your grass has very specific needs throughout the year. We’ve designed our lawn care in South Florida so that busy homeowners like you can have strong, healthy grass without having to invest your free time to get it that way.
Our warm climate is what draws so many people to South Florida. Unfortunately, as nice as the hot sun is to enjoy by the pool and beach, it can take a serious toll on the health of your lawn. Each season brings its own threats--including diseases, insects, and drought conditions that can leave your lawn looking brown and patchy. With our lawn care services, we'll make sure your lawn gets exactly what it needs throughout the year to protect it against threats like these!
Your yard is as unique as you are and your lawn care regimen should reflect that. Here at Hoffer Pest Solutions, we don’t offer cookie-cutter approaches to helping you achieve a vibrant green lawn. Instead, we create a personalized lawn treatment plan that includes everything your lawn needs to be healthy throughout the year. This includes:
Keeping a lawn beautiful in Florida can feel like a losing battle. If the hot sun isn't drying your lawn out, several days of rain are causing oversaturation. These conditions can make it hard for your grass to stay nourished and healthy, and the tropical climate here in Florida doesn't just affect your turfgrass directly. It also creates the perfect environment for pests to thrive.
Our Fort Lauderdale area lawn care program strengthens your grass so it's better able to defend itself against pest threats - but our Fort Lauderdale lawn care team is also qualified and trained to eliminate lawn pests, including:
Chinch bugs look differently depending on when you see them. These lawn-destroying pests go through 5 instars (development stages) before they become adults. In early stages, chinch bugs are reddish bugs with white bands across their back. As they develop, they become blacker in coloring. When they reach adulthood, chinch bugs are about ⅛ to 1/10 of an inch long. This is predominantly a pest for homes with St. Augustine grass. Chinch bugs suck the juices out of this type of lawn turf and leave it brown and dry looking.
If you're finding lots of beetles in your yard or patches of brown grass, you probably have grubs. Grubs are the larvae stage of beetles. As they develop, they can do quite a bit of damage in your yard, feeding on grassroots, plants, and even vegetables. Their presence also attracts other lawn pests that eat grubs. If you're curious whether or not the dry brown patches of your lawn are being created by grubs, try pulling up on that patch of your lawn. Since grubs sever the roots of turfgrass, it should lift up like a section of Astroturf.
Armyworms aren't worms at all; they are actually caterpillars. While those caterpillars will one day become brown moths, they will do a lot of damage in your yard before they do this. Armyworms can attack many types of vegetation including your grass. They leave many holes on ornamental leaves and turf leaves. If you want to know if the damage to your lawn is being done by armyworms, take some lemon scented dish soap and add it to a bucket of water (1 tablespoon per gallon.) Pour the water in a concentrated area of brown grass and check back in a couple of hours. Whatever is in your lawn will likely come to the surface and show itself.
When you examine areas of your yard, do you see tiny moths fluttering around? If you do, there is a good chance you have sod webworms. Like those armyworms, sod webworms are caterpillars that eventually turn into moths. You can also tell if you have sod webworms by looking for chewed turfgrass. Areas of your lawn that have been attacked by sod web worms will look like someone took a weed whacker to it. These caterpillars eat from the top all the way down.
These furry little creatures tunnel into your yard in search of earthworms and grubs. You're not likely to see a mole, but if you happen to be looking at the right place at the right time, you could get lucky and see a grey, blunt-snouted, tight furred creature that is about the size of your hand. When these animals come into your yard they create surface tunnels that sever your grass from their root system and push the ground up. Surface tunnels look like veins of pushed-up earth and dry brown areas. You are also likely to find mounds of dirt in your yard, like giant ant hills.
There are three species of mole crickets that are considered turfgrass pests in Florida. They are the tawny, southern, and short-winged mole cricket. All of these species look similar. They are small, light brown, and crustacean-like in appearance. While these pests can destroy any turfgrass, they are drawn to Bahia grass and Bermuda grass. Like other lawn pests in our list, these insects sever grass from their root system as they tunnel close to the surface of your lawn.
Don't let lawn pests threaten your landscape! With the Fort Lauderdale lawn care professionals at Hoffer Pest Solutions on your side, you can rest easy knowing your grass is strong enough to fend off lawn pests and the damage they can cause.
